Spelmannen vandrar
07:46
|
|
||
Se’n avsluta dagen i bägarens smolk
Hans skor äro nötta – man ser gubbens tår

A Shepherd's Tale
08:52
|
|
||
A shepherd sulks beside his flock, fair countenance bedimmed
So many thankless creatures to be herded, fed and trimmed
Bucolic life is lonesome life, a living without friends
Mere sheep to keep him company until the workday ends
Such dull existence he endures, which wears upon his mind
All day he longs for contact with the gentle, female kind
A pretty maiden to adore would bring this young man peace
Hell, any hag would do as long as she is without fleece
Great many days pass in frustration, torpor and ennui
The drudgery of endless toiling quenches youthful glee
A single thought sustains him from descending to despair:
That he'll find his beloved at the yearly country fair
Ensuing August's harvest's yield, the market will take place
The time goes by at what seems like an ever slower pace
He counts his sheep but gets no sleep, of rest he is deprived
Excitement's such he scarcely lulled until the day arrived
Away from hilly pastures finally he now can go
Straight to the village square with flock of animals in tow
A sluggish journey over fields, through glens and under trees
Terrain surmounted steadfastly with labour, not with ease
High spirits carry him with strong arms to his yearned-for place
When distant smoke is seen a solaced smile lifts up his face
A chance for money, chance to sell wool, mutton and ewe's milk
Above all chance to meet and fraternize with human ilk
Within the square men barter, yell, they trick, beguile and trade
The shepherd feels how confidence and vigour start to fade
No kindly stranger offers to for him aid, tend and care
But hang on now, who is that figure standing over there?
A pretty maiden selling bread, with eyes green like May's bloom
(Cows' optic organs baked in dough? Untempting to consume!)
A buxom lass she looks to be, a fine wife she will make
"I'm certain she will willingly my hand in marriage take!
"Sweet damsel of the bakery, thy heart I do implore
Please take me now to love, esteem, exalt and to adore
If you so do I promise you a life of boundless joy
With me, the sheep, and maybe child - a baby girl or boy!"
So hollered he; the unprepared young woman stood agape
As through her mind raced thoughts of how to hastily escape
Confused, she was unable to produce a single peep
At last she broke the silence with: "He's taken all your sheep"
The lad spun round and saw to his bemusement and dismay
A scoundrel'd stolen his whole flock by tempting them with hay
He called in outrage at the thief before he got away
No warnings or pleas could the shepherd's wakened wrath allay
With fervour blind and anger deaf, the shepherd did attack
With all his might he plants his fist into the bandit's back
The lowlife, twice his weight, unscathed, revolves and stares him down
The hapless lad stands helpless as a paw lands on his crown
Of not just sheep, but consciousness and dignity now stripped -
The shepherd’s inexperience led to him being whipped -
In dirt he lay, with bleeding skull; no market-goers care
In fact, some rascals do ensure, his pockets are made bare
At last, a friendly voice he hears; his mindfulness is stirred
A lovely tone, but from which source? His sight is still so blurred
"Poor man, I'll help you to your feet" - the first words he discerns
The dulcet ring of aider's speech removes all his concerns
"Who are you, girl, with such sweet voice?" he croaked with bloody face
"Naught but a maid," came the reply, with beauty and with grace
Together stumbled man and miss off to the woman's hut
She tended wounds and eased his pain, she mended every cut
This skinny maid, without a penny, soon the shepherd's love
To him an angel was sent from divinity above
They touched and kissed and talked of future dreams to be fulfilled
But also spoke with bitterness of how he's almost killed
That loathsome thug, how very gratifying it would be:
Reclaim lost sheep and leave him hanging from the nearest tree!
The newfound lovers plotted all throughout the balmy night
How best to seek revenge for pain and suffering and slight
Content with schemes, they took to action, found the bully's heath
The pair moved forwards, t'wards the shack, as shepherd ground his teeth
The plan was such: the lady was to knock upon the door
The shepherd would then bare himself and bash him to the floor
The sinner opened his home's mouth, a branch came crashing down
No opportunity to counter, or even to frown
He soon lay crumpled on the floor, unconscious but alive
Attempt was not made by aggressors, their foe to revive
Benumbed the thief lay while the couple took back all their herd
Then soon set off towards new grasslands of which they had heard
The two arrived at em'rald hummocks wholly free of woe
To make their living from the gifts that lambs and sheep bestow
Now shepherd beams beside his flock, fair countenance uplit
So many happy days together with his wife he'll split
Bucolic life is lovely life, when living with a friend
They'll keep each other company until their lives do end

Witch of the Mire
06:17
|
|
||
Alone next to her fire
The hated witch resides
A shack in deepest mire
Is all that she presides
She's withered yet not broken
Sustained from dying by
The powers she's evoken
From devilish ally
Unholy rites have made sure
Through evil, nightly pact
Gained wisdom of the obscure
No chance oath to retract
That eve of black firmament
When curse-embroidered cloak
Became her own ornament
Beneath a writhing oak
The dark cloak that her adorns
Since that night 'til forever
A slave to the one with horns
A bond she can't sever
She spends her waking lifetime
Howling execrations
And turning into vile slime
God's lovely creations
For this is a wicked witch
Man's benefactor - nay
No urge to others enrich
Nor for their souls to pray
Instead she schemes and profanes
Before Satan she bow
She's mean, that is for all plain
But what's she up to now?
This time she's stolen a boy
The Devil's sacrifice
A sharpened blade she deploy
To tender body slice
The horrid cries of the child
Sweet music to her mind
His blood tastes to her more mild
Than viands more refined
The news soon reaches townsfolk
That deranged swamp-stranger
The pathetic, drugged-up joke
Has become a danger
The word spreads fast, anger grows
Men grab pitchforks and flame
Set out her shack to expose
It and its contents maim
United stands the village
Against this wretched foe
Her home the mob does pillage
Revenge for suffered woe
The witch will not stand for this
From the burning rubble
Comes curse and scream and hiss
Means impending trouble
She calls upon nature's might
The monsters of the swamp
Will these base invaders smite
And bite, chew, scratch and whomp
To her surprise no help comes
She's been left out to dry
To raiders' wrath she succumbs
Swords and clubs make her die
So ends this tale so tragic
And after all it seems
There's no such thing as magic
Only mushroom-fueled dreams

Förgrämd, sur yngling med försvagat sinne
Förkastar allt som är omtyckt och inne
Han föredrar svart framför all annan kulör
Förläna förfärligt förfång för förtappad get
Förhatlig, förskräcklig, förtvivlad, förtryckt
Försynslös, förfördelad, förmäten, förryckt -
Förnimmelserna förfaslig föranstaltning föregår:
Förbund för förjävlig företeelse förmår
Förvirrat förkunnar förty förledda förställning
Förfäktar förstucket förhäxad föreställning
Förmedelst förspörjad föresats, förmenad
Förslavas förkämpen, försmädligt förenad
För Fans förtrogen förtidigt fördöms
Förhånas, förfäas, fördrivs, förglöms

Har du tandvärk eller gikt
Eller magont och njursvikt
Har din ko en lungsjuka
Har ditt svin en tungsjuka
Har en orm din stortå gnagt
Känns ditt hjärtslag endast svagt
Har din ända täckts av böld
Är ditt finger svart av köld
Onda andar snott din själ
Skoskav slitit ner din häl
Ditt anlete bränts av sol
Sök dig då till gubben Ol
Ol Simsa han är duktig
Dock inte så gudfruktig
Han helar dig på så sätt
Som lärts ut av Odens ätt
Han åderlåter dig först
Ditt blod sen släcker hans törst
Ty blod har läkande kraft
Ja, magisk är denna saft
Med denna din kroppsvätska
Och formler som är hätska
Mot allt ont, styggt och skadligt
De fördriver Ol gladligt
Har du tappat bort din get
Är din fru ohyggligt fet
Väcka kärlek hos en mö
Rädda säde genom tö
Vill du bli oändligt klok
Eller ta form av en snok
Tända eld och tämja varg
Bli gladlynt eller bli arg
Fördriva råttor och möss
Är du drabbad utav löss
Tagit sönder dyr trästol
Sök dig då till gubben Ol
Ol Simsa han kan mycket
Runt halsen bär han smycket
Som liknar Tors hammare
Från Asgårds gudskammare
Med denna Mjölnerreplik
Under stönande och skrik
Ordnar gamlingen allt väl
Hälsar olyckan farväl
Äldre riter kan han än
Arv från gångna tiders män
Svunna seder från ifjol
Lever kvar hos gamle Ol
